21. The Long Bad Tuesday ~ 16

Spooky’s confusion is because she’s a Fictional – essentially a fictional character come to life. This isn’t that uncommon in the Unfolded Earth and Spooky’s had plenty of time to come to terms with not having always been real. At some point she even went and tracked down the woman who wrote the B-movie she escaped from, which I’m sure must have provided her with all sorts of closure. Shame I had to go and throw such a spanner in the works by popping into her story and saying hello.

Transcript

Week 6 – Tuesday

Me: Hello Spooky.
Spooky: Ahh! Not so loud!

Me: Sorry. Couldn’t resist the dramatic entrance. Is this better?

Spooky: Who are you?
Me: Haven’t you figured it out yet? I’m the writer.

Week 6 – Tuesday

Spooky: The writer? You mean you’re Nile’s writer?
Me: That’s right. And I write you and Ignatz too.

Spooky: Hold on. I’ve met my writer before – you don’t look anything like her.
Spooky: And Ignatz isn’t a Fictional. He doesn’t have a writer.

Me: Everyone has a writer, Spooky.
Me: Genetiks like Ignatz think they were born out of magic or technology. And they were. But only because I wrote them that way to begin with.

Week 6 – Tuesday

Me: I wrote them all, whether they know it or not.
Me: The Genetiks and the Fictionals. The Normnuls, the Subnorms and the Supnorms.
Me: The whole Unfolded Earth and assorted other realms besides.

Spooky: What are you telling me? That you’re God?
Me: Heh! No more than you are. I write one tiny sliver of reality. Not all of it.
