32. Spécialité de la Maison

When looking back with misty-eyed reminiscence at the Nile Journals I occasionally forget that it’s star was actually a violent, psychopathic super villain. But then handy strips like this pop up to remind me just what kind of bastard Nile is. Oh and hey – it’s Franklin Frogkin from way back in part 5! Hi Franklin! I forgot to give your name in the notes to part five, so I bet you’re glad you came back now, aren’t you? Even if it did cost you your legs.

Transcript

Week 32: Monday – Decided to spend the day reacquainting myself with current events.

TV: -at a loss to explain the marked drop in violent crimes reported during the last five months.
Spooky: Bastards!
Nile: I take it work didn’t go well?

Spooky: Work didn’t go at all. They fired me.
Nile: What? Why?
Spooky: It seems failing to turn up for five months is not the best way to get on your boss’s good side.

Nile: Couldn’t you explain to him that-
Spooky: That it wasn’t my fault because our writer decided that the temporal continuity of the comic strip we inhabit had to be realigned to match his own?
Nile: When you put it like that…

Week 32: Tuesday – Had a very productive meeting with Spooky’s ex-boss.

Franklin: Yes? Can I help you, Mister…?
Nile: Nile.
Franklin: Do I know you?

Nile: We have met once before, yes. At a party. You gave me the flu.
Franklin: The flu? I’m sorry, I don’t recall-

SFX: THWAK!
Franklin: Hnk!

Nile: Yes, well. Let’s see if I can jog your memory, shall we?
Nile: And then we’ll have a nice chat about your firm’s current employment practices.

Week 32: Friday – I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of this cookery lark.

Spooky: That was my boss on the phone. From hospital.
Nile: Oh really?
Spooky: He’s offered me my old job back. And a promotion.

Nile: That’s great news!
Spooky: He’d also like to know if he could possibly have his legs back now.
Nile: Um…
