My god, is that Nile actually taking time to consider the possible repercussions of his aura of weirdness on others? Could it be *gasp* actual character growth we’re witnessing here? This episode also marks the first appearance of Nile’s signature handgun in the continuity of the series. It was last seen in the long out of print Mr Nile: The Illustrated Bastard. I really should see about getting that thing back into print, I guess…
44. Sunday Ad Infinitum ~ 6
Week 39: Sunday
Ignatz: Nile?
Nile: Through here.
Ignatz: You good?
Nile: Yeah. Where’s Spooky?
Ignatz: Checking over her kit.
Nile: Right. Me too.
Ignatz: Listen, about this… this…
Nile: Narrative decompression?
Ignatz: Yeah. Is it something I need to worry about?
Week 39: Sunday
Maybe. Maybe not.
Ignatz: Do you think it’s serious enough to call off the job?
Nile: I don’t know that we can call of the job at this stage. I mean, what kind of story would that leave us with?
Ignatz: *sigh* …listen, Nile.
Ignatz: I know you and Spooky are Fictionals. And I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t. But you need to understand – I just don’t share this… this obsession you people have about your stories.
Week 39: Sunday
Nile: “You people?”
Ignatz: Can the mock indignation and listen to me. Whatever you might believe, for me this isn’t a story. If something goes wrong on a job, people die.
Ignatz: That’s my reality. And making sure that doesn’t happen – that’s my responsibility.
Ignatz: So I’m going to ask you again. Do I need to call off the job?
Nile: No.
Ignatz: You’re sure?
Nile: I’m sure. Trust me.
I still treasure my copy of The Illustrated Bastard. I keep it in the envelope it was mailed to keep it in nice shape.
