24. Outstanding

His first mistake was asking a simple question. His second mistake was not stopping once he’d received a simple answer.


What kind of doctor were you anyway?

An excellent one. I might even go so far as to say “outstanding.”

No, I meant… did you do medicine or science stuff or-
Ah! You mean my specialism!

Well! It’s fair to say I trod an eclectic path through the halls of academia.

I believe it was a common joke amongst my undergrads that someone could write a thesis on the very range of my theses.

But then of course one of them did, and it all turned rather incestuous.

That said, I might still have their abstract kicking around somewhere.

I could probably dig it out for you if you’d be curious to take a-
