There probably are too many talking animals in webcomics, but I’ll admit the critters are rather hard to resist. After writing The Nile Journals I went on to do two more series that featured talking animals on a regular basis, so clearly I’m as susceptible to their charms as the next man.

It really is rather good, y’know.

Hey look, it’s Doc Jackson! Why, we haven’t seen him since way back in chapter one.

Like all the character’s in The Nile Journals, Igantz starts out as 3D figure generated in my beat up old copy of Poser 4. Now the last page of this week’s instalment gives you a pretty clear idea of what he’s made of in Poser – the stock cat model stuck on top of a human model, with the rest of the cat’s body set to be invisible.  Poor Ignatz. Hopefully he’ll never discovers  this indignity himself – I imagine such knowledge would result in some rather high psychiatrist’s bills.

What’s a little spontaneous combustion between friends?

“Death to me and death to you
Tell me what else can we
Do die do?”

I never wrote full script for The Nile Journals, but I did write out the dialogue and an occasional one line panel description to allow me to pace each episode before starting on the artwork. Looking back at my original notes, the script for the last page of this instalment says simply “Tumble into blackness.” So there you go.

Ooh look, another double-size instalment. Consider it an extra special treat for being such a lovely audience.
