My position: absolutely. In fiction, events are often given descriptions that are literal. Nobody even needs to consider the provision that those literally-described events are not real.

Conceivably, then, the Bible could be packed with events that never happened, but still be meant to be taken literally. That would be fine, so long as it’s not taken as both entirely true and entirely literal.
